I found this little poster today and it reminded me of my own struggles to adopt true lifestyle change. Any diet can work, and a 'new' workout can make a difference...for the moment. But, I have learned that lasting weight loss and fitness can really only happen if there is a change in mindset about food and nutrition.  That has to come from within and usually comes with a complete lifestyle change.

Who do you know that has lost weight, sometimes even drastic amounts? Was it through a 'program', a pill, a diet? If so, most likely their weight will come back...because there hasn't been a change in the most important place...between the ears. Many of us, and I include myself in this equation, use food as more than just fuel.  It is often used as comfort or a part of mindless eating behavior when eating, consuming more calories than we even realize.  I am not saying that I have all the answers, because I struggle too, I am saying that if what we really want is to end the up and down weight/fitness struggle, we must first look at what we struggle with internally.Get Fit, Stay Fit, Be Happy, Lisl

We LOVE Burpees!

HEY BOOTCAMP BABIES~
"obsessed is just a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated"

BURPEE CHALLENGE PART 2~
I am psyched!!! it's the first Thursday in June, that means...100 Burpee Challenge today!
Warm up – you know what that means!!! 10 Minute Burpee Challenge!! As many burpees as you can do in 10 minutes! Goal is 100! Can you do it??? If you do meet the challenge, try to see how many you can do past 100. This is the 5th month we have done this and it has completely worn me out each time! I finally met my goal of 130....well it was 129, but I am so happy!
Remember, FULL pushup...stay powerful....have a strategy...full overhead extension.

What I have learned about this workout is that you have to have a strategy, I try to do 11 or 12 per minute, using the time left in the minute to recover. Then as soon as that minute is up, I do 11 or 12 more...if I can keep this up, I will have done way more than 100, right now, my goal is to get above 120. Remember, each of you is doing this at your own fitness level and so, set a goal before we start this and do your best to stick to it! I love how my whole upper body is screaming when this is over! The entire burpee movement has to be dynamic and very fluid without stopping along the way. However, if this is your first time learning the exercise, practice it slowly first a few times until you get the hang of it. Then speed it up.

WOD - --- AMRAP in 30 Minutes....
run to Caesar's and back
50 Box Jumps
50 Kettlebell Swings on the front porch
50 Squats - go HEAVY
50 leg raises
50 OVERHEAD walking lunges outside
50 tuck jumps....... you can sub squat jumps!
finish with 50 ab ball throws against wall

5 sets
30 seconds of mountain climbers
30 seconds of flutter kicks (feet cant touch floor during 30 seconds)
30 seconds of plank
30 seconds of quick feet drills
30 seconds of jumping air squats
30 second rest - then repeat from beginning

thought you would find this interesting!

What’s your LEAST favorite BootCamp Movement?

If I were going to ask you what your LEAST favorite BootCamp movement was, what would it be? Oh and as a follow up to that, what does "least favorite" mean to you... most despised, hardest, inflicts the most pain, boring, just can't do it, etc.?? For me... its a toss up between thrusters (inflicts the most pain), and Pistol Squats (I just can't do them)....or burpees...they are so darn hard!  Post your thoughts to comments below.....

"A WOMAN IS OFTEN MEASURED by the things she cannot control. She is measured by the way her body curves or doesn't curve, by where she is flat or straight or round. She is measured by 36-24-26 and inches and ages and numbers, by all the outside things that don't ever add up to who she is on the inside. And so if a woman is to be measured, let her be measured by the things she can control, by who she is and who she is trying to become. Because every woman knows measurements are only statistics and STATISTICS LIE." - NIKE  1994

It's never too late...

“Write down how you feel when you blow off your workout. Write down how you feel the moment your workout is over. Compare the two.” -Tony Horton

I think that I just found my most favorite NIKE quote ever!!!  I have been on a nike kick lately, not sure why, but their little nuggets have been resonating with me.  This one makes me think about my girls! I think you will love it!

"You were born a daughter. You looked up to your mother. You looked up to your father. You looked up at everyone. You wanted to be a princess. You thought you were a princess. You wanted to own a horse. You wanted to be a horse. You wanted your brother to be a horse. You wanted to wear pink. You never wanted to wear pink. You wanted to be a Veterinarian. You wanted to be President. You wanted to be the President's Veterinarian. You were picked last for the team. You were the best one on the team. You refused to be on the team. You wanted to be good in algebra. You hid during algebra. You wanted the boys to notice you. You were afraid the boys would notice you. You started to get acne. You started to get breasts. You started to get acne that was bigger than your breasts. You wouldn't wear a bra. You couldn't wait to wear a bra. You couldn't fit into a bra. You didn't like the way you looked. You didn't like the way your parents looked. You didn't want to grow up. You had your first best friend. You had your first date. You had your second best friend. You had your second first date. You spent hours on the telephone. You got kissed. You got to kiss back. You went to the prom. You didn't go to the prom. You went to the prom with the wrong person. You spent hours on the telephone. You fell in love. You fell in love. You fell in love. You lost your best friend. You lost your other best friend. You really fell in love. You became a steady girlfriend. You became a significant other. YOU BECAME SIGNIFICANT TO YOURSELF. Sooner or later, you start taking yourself seriously. You know when you need a break. You know when you need a rest. You know what to get worked up about and what to get rid of. And you know when it's time to take care of yourself, for yourself. To do something that makes you stronger, faster, more complete. Because you know it's never too late to have a life. And never too late to change one. JUST DO IT." --- 1999

YESS~

BootCamp workout for Thursday!

100 Burpee Challenge

The 100 Burpee Challenge is one of the most excruciating fitness tests in existence. Every single muscle in the body is worked to an extreme degree and you will not only be wearing out every muscle that you have, but you will also hammer your heart and lungs worse than you would have ever thought possible without taking a single step in any direction. You have 10 minutes to complete 100 burpees, if you can't get to 100, do as many as you can, try to reach your goal of 100! If you can do 100, how many more can you reach, where are you in comparison to last month? Train hard, set goals and see progress!

Game Face!

"If you're going to be alive and on this planet, you have to, like, suck the marrow out of every day and get the most out of it."~Drew Barrymore
at the USMC Mud Run! what an awesome day!

Oh Bootcamp, I have missed you so! I am so happy to be returning to another week of tough workouts and challenges. I have to admit I was jealous last week as I read your posts and moaning and groaning about how hard classes were. I was also so very proud of my girls Laura and Jennifer who stepped in and took care of you! I love that they wrote up the workouts themselves and came up with something fabulous!

Show up today with your game face on! Give 100% during today's bootcamp. If you do not challenge yourself and you just coast through this one you will probably not get much of a workout. Have a goal in mind and stick with it!

Warm Up EMOM (every minute on the minute) – 15 Minutes
4 Burpees
8 Squats

Tabata Plio PushUps. Full hand release, tabata style, don't stop until you have done 200 pushups! (men - 250)

Work Out~
thrusters and runs
5 thrusters, run to top of the parking lot and run back, 90 seconds
15 rounds

These will be plenty hard with just body weight thrusters if you don't have any dumbbells. The goal is to finish the "work" during the first 30-35 seconds, resting the last half of the minute. If you choose to use no weight, be sure to "mimic" the movement your hands/arms would make during the thrusters.

Tabata Plio PushUps. Full hand release, tabata style, don't stop until you have done 200 pushups! (men - 250)
Core Work to end!

Bring your goals out from the shadows, give them substance, and say them out loud, in public, right here. Make them REAL, and commit to hitting them, whether it be a month from now, six months from now or this time next year.

I made this pork tenderloin recipe this weekend and it was absolutely wonderful!  I made a few changes to the original to keep it clean and it turned out fantastic!

Spinach, Pesto, and Feta-Stuffed Pork Tenderloin with Chunky Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1  (1-pound) pork tenderloin, trimmed
  • 1/4  cup  basil pesto
  • 1  cup  baby spinach
  • 1/2 cup of sun dried tomatoes in olive oil  (I get mine at Costco)
  • 1/4  cup  (1 ounce) crumbled feta cheese with basil and sun-dried tomatoes
  • Olive oil-flavored cooking spray
  • 1/4  teaspoon  black pepper
  • 1 cup diced fresh tomatoes with balsamic vinegar

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 500°.
2. Cut pork lengthwise, cutting to, but not through, other side. Open halves, laying pork flat. Place pork halves between 2 sheets of heavy-duty plastic wrap; pound to an even thickness using a meat mallet or small heavy skillet. Spread pesto evenly down length of tenderloin; top with spinach and feta and sprinkle with 1/2 of the sundried tomatoes. Close tenderloin; secure at intervals with wooden picks (about 12). Place pork in a 13 x 9-inch baking pan coated with cooking spray. Coat pork with cooking spray; sprinkle evenly with pepper. Pour tomatoes in balsamic around pork in pan. top with the remaining sundried tomatoes.
3. Bake at 500° for 22 minutes or until a thermometer registers 160° (slightly pink). Let stand 5 minutes. Discard wooden picks; cut pork into 8 slices. Serve roasted tomatoes over pork.

this was SO wonderful! I served with a green salad and brown rice.

It is 90 days till summer, are you ready to show that 6 pack? If you are putting in the hours at the gym, hitting Cardio hard, lifting weights and you are still not getting the results you want, check out your nutrition...it is most likely the culprit! Whenever I feel like I am losing definition in my core I start tracking my nutrition and calories. I use it to get back on track with where I need to be, for me it's mostly to be more aware of mindless snacks and portion control! Check out Lance Armstrong's site for my favorite tool for tracking calories...

The importance of tracking calories
Most of us claim that we watch what we eat. We also claim we change the oil every 3,000 miles. Do we really? It has been shown in tests that we tend to forget some of the bites that we make throughout the day. It turns out that most of us do remember that hamburger and french fries we had on the way home. But the things we tend to forget are the 50 grams of chocolate, the can of Coke, the bag of popcorn, and the few cookies we had before we went to bed. Unfortunately, those little details make all the difference and the only way to stay on track is to have a clear and complete picture of what we really eat throughout the day.

Tracking calories is probably one of the oldest dieting methods, and throughout all these years it still has not lost any of its appeal. We all know that consuming 1000 calories a day is rather little, and 3000 is too much for most of us. So why not pick a number in between, make sure to eat just that many calories, and observe the results a few weeks later. No change? Pick a lower number of calories. Gained weight? Pick a lower number of calories. Lost more than you expected? Make sure you eat enough nutrients.  To determine your Daily Calorie Needs, go to:
Want to lose 1 pound a week? Then subtract 500 calories from your daily total. Want to lose 2 pounds a week? Then subtract 1000 calories from your daily total. Better yet, eat 500 calories less and burn 500 extra calories per day through exercise.
If you are eating the right amount of calories and find that you are still hungry, replace higher calorie foods (like processed foods) with lower calorie, higher fiber foods such as whole grains, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and grilled lean meats.  Eat the right foods and you won't be hungry. In fact, my advice it to eat no processed foods!

Dieting really is that simple. The reason why so many of us fail, is because we underestimate the number of times we opened the fridge. So put a notepad on the door of your fridge, and start recording the foods and the times at which you consumed them. This way you will not only determine the number of calories you may consume, but you also may be able to detect any unhealthy eating patterns. Last but not least, after having spent a few minutes writing down all the foods, you will think twice about eating them in the future.
